FEMA'S FOUR (4) STEPS TO EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

  1. Get An Emergency Kit: Be prepared to improvise and use what you have on hand to make it on your own for at least 5-7 days. While there are many things that might make you more comfortable, think first about fresh water, food and clean air. Consider two kits; one to shelter in place and the other should be lightweight, smaller version you can grab and go.

  2. Make A Plan: Develop a family communication plan, a plan to shelter-in-place, and an evacuation plan. Know your work and school emergency plans.

  3. Be Informed: Know what Denali's risks are, how to generally prepare for all emergencies, and what actions to take for specific emergency situations. Sign up to receive Denali Borough News & Press Releases by email HERE, and monitor local radio, newspapers, and social media during an emergency.

  4. Get Involved: There are many ways that you can help your neighborhood or community to be better prepared for emergencies.

    • Take A First Aid Class: Contact your Local Fire Department for more information.

    • Volunteer with your local fire and EMS department: Packets and training information are available by contacting each fire departments Chief Officer.

    • Attend the Denali Local Emergency Planning Committee Meetings: Meetings are held quarterly in the Tri-Valley Community Center. Check the Denali Borough calendar for the next meeting or call (907) 683-1330 for information on the next meeting date.

    • Volunteer With Local Relief Agencies: Volunteer with the American Red Cross of Alaska, Caitlin Holloway - caitlin.holloway@redcross.org, or Neighbor to Neighbor.
