Bear Creek & Saint George Creek Wildland Fire Information

July 9, 2025

Bear Creek - 30,988, Containment: 17%

Saint George Creek Fire - 42,208, Containment: 0%

Total acres combined - 73,196

Personnel - 318

Cooler, wetter weather and high relative humidity is predicted to continue Wednesday. These favorable conditions aid firefighters who are mopping up residual heat and embers near the fires perimeter and around structures.

Tuesday, milder temperatures and scattered but sometimes intense rains prevailed across the fire. This trend greatly reduced fire behavior and will continue Wednesday. Thursday and throughout the weekend hotter and drier temps and lower relative humidity will return.

Bear Creek Fire:

On Tuesday, firefighters made significant progress extinguishing hot embers near the Bear Creek and June Creek communities. On the northeast side of the fire, where the fire crossed the Parks Highway crews monitored the burn area for residual heat that could reignite and noticed fewer hot spots to mop up on Tuesday. This trend will continue Wednesday. Firefighters on the south and southeast section of the fire extinguished heat west of the Parks Highway and constructed handline. In the Magpie subdivision, crews improved existing dozer line and developed plans to secure the subdivision’s fiber optic cables.

Saint George Creek Fire:

Wednesday, crews plan to fly in and provide structure protection close to the fire’s southeast corner near Dry Creek. On the northeast section of the fire, near Wood River, crews placed hose lays around existing firelines and improved structure protection. On the west side of the fire, firefighters widened and extended existing lines.

Preparedness Level Changes:

The State of Alaska remains at Preparedness Level 5 (PL5), the highest level identified in the Alaska Preparedness Plan..

Evacuation status is evaluated regularly and determined in coordination with fire managers.

Please adhere to the reduced speed for firefighter safety. Pilot car operations remain in place through the Nenana Ridge Complex Fire north of Nenana. Wait times are between 1 and 2 hours along the Parks Highway between Milepost 308 - 341.

If you fly, we can’t! A temporary flight restriction (TFR; FDC 5/8646) is in place for the fire area to protect firefighter safety. Drones are prohibited in this area; any use of drones will ground aircraft and may endanger firefighters.
