History of the Street Naming Process
STREET NAMING HISTORY
As part of the implementation of the Uniform Addressing System, the Denali Borough initiated a comprehensive public process to gather community input and finalize street names in accordance with borough standards described in Denali Borough Code 9.12.
-
In March 2021, the Borough released a comprehensive list of proposed street names. A 30-day public comment period followed, during which residents and business owners were invited to submit feedback or propose alternative names for streets in their area of residence or business.
-
Virtual public meetings were held on April 6, 7, and 8, 2021, to present the proposed street names, discuss the feedback received during the comment period, and engage directly with the public.
-
Following these meetings, the Assembly and Planning Commission reviewed both the community feedback and the applicable street naming standards to address any concerns raised.
-
In September 2021, the Borough hosted a series of open house meetings to present the revised street names and allow the public to review changes made in response to earlier comments.
-
By January 2022, the Planning Commission formally adopted the majority of street names within the Denali Borough.
