RESOLUTION NO. 91-18

A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF RETAINING THE STATE TROOPER

STATION IN HEALY, ALASKA.

WHEREAS, the Denali Borough is interested in maintaining the highest standard of living possible for its residents; and

WHEREAS, the public safety aspect of the area is calculated in this standard of living; and

WHEREAS, the State Trooper Station at Healy provides for the public safety aspect; and

WHEREAS, the George Parks Highway is the most traversed transportation system linking two of the major cities and industrial areas of the State; and

WHEREAS, the Healy area is the gateway to Denali National Park and the State Trooper Station ensures the safety of the residents, transient work force, and the 8,000 daily travelers during the summer months who visit this world renowned attraction; and

WHEREAS, the expected growth of the businesses and population within the Denali Borough, specifically the anticipated Healy Power Plant Project, will require additional public safety measures;

AND WHEREAS, the efforts of the State Trooper's along the highway corridor has given the residents of the Denali Borough a secure, practically crime free environment in which to live.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Denali Borough disagrees with the decision to move the State Trooper Station from Healy to Fairbanks and recommends that the Commissioner retain the State Trooper Station in Healy.
