DENALI BOROUGH, ALASKA

 

RESOLUTION NO.   92-10  

 

A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE RECOMMENDATION FROM THE

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION REGARDING THEIR 6-YEAR ROAD PLAN.

 

WHEREAS, the Denali Borough was incorporated by the State of Alaska and contains approximately 12,800 square miles; and

 

WHEREAS, the State has collected significant amounts of tax for road maintenance and improvements; and

 

WHEREAS, the amount of funds identified by the State to the Denali Borough is insignificant towards the actual funds needed to adequately care for road construction needs; and

 

WHEREAS, the Denali Borough will be an area of growth in the future due to the increase in tourism needs for development within the Denali Borough and the selection of municipal lands from the State for development both residential and commercial; and

 

WHEREAS, there is little or no available marine/river travel within the area;

 

AND WHEREAS, the Denali Borough has yet to assume road powers.

 

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:  that the Denali Borough is in opposition to the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities 6-year plan to shift funding to the local government as being proposed currently.

 

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:  that the Denali Borough is in opposition to any forcing down to the local level of the State's previously accepted responsibilities especially when such powers have not been assumed by the local government.
