DENALI BOROUGH, ALASKA

 

RESOLUTION NO.  03-13

 

A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE ALASKA RAILROAD AND THE ALASKA MOOSE FEDERATION WORKING TOGETHER TO MAINTAIN THE QUALITY AND QUANTITY OF THE ALASKA’S MOOSE POPULATION

 

WHEREAS, the Cantwell Alaska Railroad corridor Project is located adjacent to the confluence of the Jack River and the Nenana River; and

 

WHEREAS, approximately 8 miles of track run through this area; and

 

WHEREAS, this particular area is ideal for wintering moose habitat and draws moose from many areas in the vicinity; and

 

WHEREAS, in heavy snow years, over 100 moose are put in jeopardy from collisions with the railroad; and

 

WHEREAS, overpasses and underpasses have been proven highly successful for moose crossings over railroads and roads.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:  That the Denali Borough Assembly supports the Alaska Railroad and the Alaska Moose Federation efforts to construct a fenced corridor with underground/overpass crossings areas.
