A
RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE
WHEREAS, the State of Alaska has
benefited from higher crude oil prices while communities and citizens struggle
to pay the escalating costs of fuel, insurance, retirement, and transported
goods; and
WHEREAS, the State of
WHEREAS, the removal of revenue
sharing programs has devastated municipalities statewide forcing budget cuts
and the abolishment of essential services; and
WHEREAS, House Bill 49, if enacted,
would provide Municipal Aid Grants of $50,000 to every municipality; and
WHEREAS, restored municipal
revenue sharing allows local control to efficiently and effectively administer
necessary services; and
WHEREAS, one of the key
responsibilities of any State government is to ensure that communities have
adequate resources to provide basic public services to their citizens.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that
the Denali Borough Assembly supports House Bill 49 as introduced or other forms
of municipal revenue sharing and urges the legislature to adopt a reliable
annual funding stream for State revenues.
