CALL TO                    Presiding Officer Jerry Mueller called the public hearing to order at 3:03

ORDER                       p.m.

 

ROLL CALL               Assembly members present were: Sid Michaels,  Jim Caswell, Teresa Hall, Carol Shields, Jerry Mueller, Teresa Usibelli, Jim Payne, Scott Stowell, Gerald Pollock and Mayor Gonzales.

 

1.)  Ordinance 01-06, version F, an ordinance amending Denali Borough Code of Ordinances, Chapter 24, Section 6, concerning management of Borough Real property.

 

There were no public comments.

 

2.)  Ordinance 01-09, Version B, an ordinance amending Article II, Section 2.02 of the Denali Borough Charter regarding redistricting.

 

There were no public comments.

 

3.)  Ordinance 01-10, Version B, an ordinance amending the Denali Borough Charter, Article XI, Section 11.01, regarding an excursion tax.

 

There were no public comments.

 

4.)  Ordinance 01-11, Version A, an ordinance amending Article II, Section 2.02 of the Denali Borough Charter concerning redistricting.  (Introduced by Assembly member Sid Michaels.)

 

David Tash, Cantwell resident, stated that he is concerned with electing candidates at large.  He asked how it would be if the US government did that.  He stated that Alaska would not have any representation.  Tash stated that he thinks it would be that way for representation for Cantwell.  He said that it is not right to include Cantwell in a government and then not give them representation.

 

Marie Gore, Cantwell resident, stated that she agrees with Tash.

 

5.)  Ordinance 01-12, Version A, an ordinance amending Article II, Section 2.02 of the Denali Borough Charter concerning redistricting.  (Introduced by Assembly member Jim Caswell.)

 

There were no comments.

 

6.)  Ordiance 01-13, Version A, an ordiance establishing a 2% general sales tax within the Denali Borough.  (Introduced by Assembly member Teresa Hall.)

 

Steve Jones, Denali resident, stated that he prefers this type of tax over an excursion tax.  He said that he does not believe that there should be a time limit on it.  He also stated that the Assembly needs to be more creative with more exemptions and utilities should not be taxed.
