DENALI BOROUGH,
RESOLUTION NO. 93-03
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING
CAPITAL CONSTRUCTION
FUNDING REQUEST.
WHEREAS, the Denali Borough School District has
identified the Tri-Valley School Addition and Remodel project as its highest
priority for Capital funding in FY 94, and
WHEREAS, Tri-Valley/Healy area is experiencing
increased school aged population growth, and
WHEREAS, such school aged population growth has
averaged 7% over the past five years and over 20% between 1992 and 1993, and
WHEREAS, continued school-aged population growth
is anticipated as a result of the tourism, mining, and power generation
activities in the Healy area, and
WHEREAS, the school facility at Tri-Valley has a
capacity of approximately 160 students, and current enrollment at Tri-Valley is
over 220 students, and
WHEREAS, a number of code and structural upgrades
are required by various state agencies, and
WHEREAS, the
WHEREAS, the study has determined that $10.75
million dollars is needed to upgrade and expand the present facility to meet
the safety, space, and instructional program needs of currently enrolled
students as well as accommodate projected growth over the next several years,
and
WHEREAS, Governor Hickel
and the Alaska 2000 reports have identified the condition of rural schools as a
major concern of the State of Alaska,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: that the Denali Borough Assembly supports the
legislative funding request of the Denali Borough School District in the amount
of $10.75 million and urges the 1993 Legislature to include the funding request
in the FY 94 Capital Budget of the State of Alaska.
