AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 13 OF
THE DENALI BOROUGH CODE OF ORDINANCES REGARDING COMMITTEE SEAT APPOINTMENTS.
BE IT ENACTED by the Assembly of the Denali Borough, Alaska
that:
Section 1.
Classification.
This ordinance is of a general and
permanent nature.
Section 2. Chapter 13, Section 5. A. is amended as follows:

Nomination Process.
All current applications for a
particular committee shall be considered.
A proposed nominee shall meet the member qualifications of the
committee, shall have a current application on file in the borough office, [and
shall attend a confirmation hearing.]
The termination date for consideration to a committee seat will be
fifteen days prior to the date of the [confirmation hearing] meeting at
which the Mayor nominates.
3.)
Confirmation of Committee Members.
The Mayor shall nominate and the
Assembly shall confirm committee seat appointments. [Confirmation hearings
shall be held during regular Assembly meetings.] The Assembly may ask specific
questions for a committee seat. Questions shall be directed through the
Presiding Officer. [At the next regular Assembly meeting following the
confirmation hearing,] The Assembly shall vote on each nominee in the order
presented by the Mayor until the vacancy is filled. The negative as well as the affirmative vote shall be recorded.
[Section 3. Oath of Office.
Confirmed committee members shall be
sworn in accordance with Denali Borough Charter Section 15.04. An orientation and parliamentary procedures
packet will be assigned.]
Section 3. Effective
Date. This ordinance becomes effective upon
adoption of the Borough Assembly and signature of the Mayor.
